Datavideo DN-20 Recorder (without Mediapac)

The Datavideo DN-20 (previously known as the nNovia QC Deck BNC) is similar to the DN-10 however it offers hard wired Composite BNC I/O ports and a timecode BNC port instead of the standard breakout cable that is required in other analogue based nNovia recorders. The DN-20 also includes a DV / HDV based FireWire (IEEE-1394) port, stereo unbalanced audio I/O ports and a audio boost / line switch.

DN-20

The advantage of the DN-20 is that it can record Digital Video, even if the input is analogue. Note that HDV can only be recorded via the FireWire / IEEE 1394 connection and when the unit is set to HDV, the analogue video input is shut off and there is no pass through. Once the vision has been recorded, simply connect the DN-20 to a PC or Mac to transfer the edit ready clipsonto your NLE timeline. Alternately, one can copy the content at faster than real time to your hard disk or network storage by removing.  the removable Audavi Mediapac (sold separately) and connecting directly to the computer using a separate Audavi FireWire or USB adaptor cable.

This eliminates a lengthy capture process, saving significant time and money and brings the benefits of the all-digital work flow to the videographer for both analogue and digital cameras. The DN-20 also provides for immediate playback of captured digital content to an analogue monitor, (in standard definition).

The videographer can organise his shoot with an eye toward simplifying the back-end work by taking advantage of the 99 bins offered. Each bin is analogous to a tape and when a recording is started a clip is defined. Up to 97 clips for each bin are numbered. When connecting to a computer, each recorded bin appears as a folder and within it each clip appears as a file.

New land speed record

New land speed record - recorded by nNovia Solid State QC Deck
The nNovia QC deck was at the heart of the on-board recording system used to record cockpit video for the 3 fastest motorcycle streamliners in the world. The 16 year old motorcycle land speed record of 322 MPH was broken twice with the final record being set by Chris Carr driving Denis Manning_ streamliner. The history making event was recorded by the production crew from IGNITION 3 with a dozen cameras, three of which were in the cockpits of the streamliners.

A nNovia QC deck equipped with an Audavi 8GB solid state cartridge captured the video in one of the harshest of environments possible. At these speeds vibration from the engine and the chassis are so extreme that recordings from hard disk or tape are inadequate.
